CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Enter the world of an exciting new technology with implications that will change manufacturing forever. Similar to a 2d paper printer, a 3d printer can take a file from your computer made using CAD software and extrude layers of molten plastic to create an actual physical object based on your design. Use 3D printers to prototype physical parts cheaply before having them mass produced, make one off designs as tools or art, create negatives to cast a mold, or design cool figurines as decorations.
Don't know how to create 3D designs? Don't worry! There are thousands of designs uploaded to popular websites for free that you can browse through, or you can take one of our Fusion 360 CAD classes to gain useful 3D modelling skills.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS:
Provided: Lulzbot Taz 6 3D Printer, Printing Filament
If you have a specific file you would like to start out with please bring it in on an SD card, our printers can only use the .STL format.
AGE RESTRICTIONS:
18 and up (exceptions can be made for ages 15-17 that are interested, and 12+ are ok if they attend with a parent)

Description
Soldering is an incredibly useful and versatile skill for making and repairing electronics and is your first step towards entering the vast world of electronic design. This class aims to teach students the skills that they will need in order to solder effectively while prioritizing the health and safety of the student, the device being soldered, and the soldering iron itself.
The class will start with a lecture on what solder is, different kinds of solder and soldering irons, the other tools that you will need to build electronics effectively, and best practices for reducing exposure to chemicals. Students will then build a simple kit to put their new skills to the test. The class price includes the cost of the kit.
This class is required for certification to use the electronics station.
To ensure that spaces aren't taken up by people who wont be able to make their classes, there are NO REFUNDS offered for any of our official classes (this may or may not include classes organized by 3rd parties which are hosted in our space). If you are not able to make it to a class please contact us and we will credit you for a space in another class.

Interested in electronic music? Enjoy working with synthesizers? Have a cool idea for something that you want to make but you just don't know how? Pure data is the perfect program to enable your vision and help you grow as a musician.
Pure Data is a free, open source and multi platform visual programming language that can put a lot of power into the hands of those who spend some time to learn it. Designed to be easy for musicians to understand, Pure Data requires no knowledge of script-based programming languages to master. Instead programming is done by connecting blocks representing different functions together with cables to direct the flow of information and audio around a patch. Build patches to make silly sounds, to write music with an algorithm, to analyse sensor data, or to process incoming audio for novel effects, the sky is the limit to what can be done with Pure Data.
This class is appropriate for people with little to no knowledge of how the program works. For those who understand the program a bit better there will be a second intermediate class held at a later date.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Your own laptop with Pure Data installed (Mac, Windows and Linux are all supported, old laptops are generally fine). For instructions to install visit this site:
https://puredata.info/downloads/pure-data
Please make sure that you have installed Pure Data before class has started.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Harnessing Electricity is a SUPER POWER!
A SUPER POWER you can begin to learn in this 2.5 hour Makerspace class taught by Andre, an instructor with a passion for democratizing engineering and making the complex simple to understand.
Now more than ever, there is no reason not to get started learning how to work with electronic equipment and teaching yourself how to design and build electronics.
This course is designed for complete beginners and is designed to take you to confidence working around all types of electricity (and to recognize electrical danger so you don't work on things you shouldn't!)
In this class, you will come away with your own circuit on a breadboard that you have built using the most common electircal components (Wire, switches, resistors, transistors, capacitors, Diodes and an Integrated Circuit).
Along the way you'll master these concepts:
-What is Electrical Power and How to measure it?
-How to deeply and intuively understand concepts like Volts, Amps, Resistance, Ohm's Law
-How does wall outlet electricity differ from that in a battery?
-How do you work with and on electrical devices safely and without damaging components or yourself?
-How do you interpret a circuit diagram?
-How to safely and correctly Use the basic Electronics Workbench Tools at the Makerspace
-How to use a Breadboard to Build a Working Prototype of a Circuit
This course is a pre-requisite to higher level electronics courses at the Makerspace and is intended for beginners of al ages.
If you already have electronics skills you can test out of this directly into higher level courses. This is for total beginners.
*NOTE: This is not a course on how to solder. Soldering is a seperate course and all the circuits we will build in this class involve no soldering.
AGE RESTRICTIONS:
Intended for 18 and up (exceptions can be made for ages 15-17 that are interested, and 12-14 are ok if they attend with a parent). Contact organizer for approval for students younger than 12.
