Learn How to Make Synths with Pure Data

July 10, 2019 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Interested in electronic music? Enjoy working with synthesizers? Have a cool idea for something that you want to make but you just don’t know how? Pure data is the perfect program to enable your vision and help you grow as a musician.

Pure Data is a free, open source and multi platform visual programming language that can put a lot of power into the hands of those who spend some time to learn it. Designed to be easy for musicians to understand, Pure Data requires no knowledge of script-based programming languages to master. Instead programming is done by connecting blocks representing different functions together with cables to direct the flow of information and audio around a patch. Build patches to make silly sounds, to write music with an algorithm, to analyse sensor data, or to process incoming audio for novel effects, the sky is the limit to what can be done with Pure Data.

This class is appropriate for people with little to no knowledge of how the program works. For those who understand the program a bit better there will be a second intermediate class held at a later date.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Your own laptop with Pure Data installed (Mac, Windows and Linux are all supported, old laptops are generally fine). For instructions to install visit this site:

Please make sure that you have installed Pure Data before class has started.
